Le Compas, s'écrivant en créole (haïtien) «Konpa» (déformations nominales connues : Kompa, Kompas, Konpas,), est un genre musical d'Haïti inventé par le saxophoniste Jean-Baptiste Nemours (compas direct), dérivé de la méringue (version haïtienne du merengue dominicain), et proche du calypso. Il a connu un grand succès de la fin des années 1970 jusqu'au années 1980 dans les caraïbes donnant ainsi naissance aux Antilles françaises à un autre genre musical : le Zouk. |
